Cat In Studio Apartment: Tips To Make The Space Work For You & Your Cats.

Getting a cat is the ideal solution for you if you want a pet but live in a small studio apartment, dislike cleaning a lot, and don’t have a lot of free time.

Why is this so?

First off, cats are small enough to not take up much room. They are also “liquid” and can fit into very small areas. For them, a little flat will be like a huge box, and we all know how much cats adore boxes. A cat will feel very secure in a small studio apartment since food and safety are the two things that matter to cats the most. You have already made a cat almost entirely content by giving it these two. First off, cats are small enough to not take up much room. They are also “liquid” and can fit into very small areas. So why almost completely happy?

Cats certainly have remarkable bursts of energy, yet they do spend the most of their time sleeping.

Even young cats and kittens, who are energy balls while awake, need exercise during the day, thus one of the things you must supply are toys. And not just any toys, but ones that have been deliberately picked to hold the cat’s interest for an extended period of time, cause it to expend energy, and—in my opinion—are best of all, at least partially automatic.

Some people might consider that keeping a cat in a small apartment is cruel, but trust me when I say that this is not the case at all. The fact that my cat sleeps or snoozes next to me most of the time demonstrates that a cat’s first priority is to feel secure and loved by its owner.

As I’ve already indicated, it’s important to ensure that your cat doesn’t get bored while awake while it lives in a small apartment. There are various ways to do this, which I’ll list below. Your cat will be content to live in a limited space if you can follow these instructions, I promise.

Get Yout Cat Lots Of Toys

You will need to purchase quite a few toys, but fortunately, cat toys are reasonably priced and there are many things you can build yourself to keep your cat very engaged. Check out my selection of the finest DIY cat toys that are completely free.

Automated cat toys are one kind of toy that I heartily suggest you purchase. With an automatic toy, you may take care of business while your cat is having fun, because cats can play for a very long time before getting bored. This makes both the cat and the owner happy. I think you should buy these toys over the course of a few months because they can get pricey, though not by much.

My own advice is to hide the toy for a while if you notice your cat has stopped playing with it. When you bring it back out, it will seem brand new. They do forget their toys, which is beneficial for us.

Get Your Cat A Cat Tree

The best item I’ve ever purchased for my cat is a cat tree! Although it’s true that your cat can lie on the couch, your chair, or your work desk, you’ll definitely notice the difference when you acquire a cat tree.

My cat utilizes the cat tree I got for my studio apartment every day. She really enjoys sunbathing on the top platform and the view she has out the window thanks to the tree.

The cat tree should be placed as close to a window as possible (or in my case, it is next to my french doors to the balcony). The following is my next point, which is:

Make A Place For Your Kitty Next To A Window

What a TV is to us, a window is to cats. A never-ending source of amusement. A cat will enjoy perching safely behind glass to observe the outside world.

Your cat will have endless entertainment if you can get a bird feeder fixed to the window. Just make sure your cat can’t get to the birds (so you won’t have to wake up with one in its mouth like I did one morning; saving a bird first thing in the morning is not enjoyable at all).

Enable Ouitside Noise

I must stress one thing: my cat likes outside noise just as much as it loves the view of the world outside the windows.

When it’s warm outside, my cat just can’t stand a closed balcony door. Although she spends her time indoors, either next to me or on her kitty tree, she is constantly listening for noise from the outside. I can tell that my cat is attentive to every sound coming from the outside world because I can watch her ears twitch in response to particular stimuli.

Don’t forget to give your cat exposure to outside sounds, especially if you keep a cat in a small environment.

Cat Proof Your Balcony To Enjoy Your Cat

I have a tiny balcony that is only big enough for an outdoor clothes dryer. But it is a huge blessing since I also keep the litter box outside, which is much better for the smell and simpler to clean.

My cat now enjoys spending time on my balcony after I cat-proofed it. She enjoys the vastness and can almost taste a small portion of the world there.

Take Your Cat Outside Once In A While

Unlike dogs, cats are quite willing to remain in a familiar environment.

I’ve tried taking my cat outside since I’ve come to the conclusion that keeping a cat in a small location for extended periods of time is bad for it.

But when I take the leash now, guess what happens? My cat runs under the bed! She makes me feel so bad since it seems like these walks have been really stressful for her. Even now, she sometimes acts in this manner when she observes me getting ready for an outing. And so she won’t feel too heavy for me. I even bought a new cat carrier that I can carry over my shoulder when I take her outside.

Therefore, it can be said that not all cats enjoy going outside; it depends on the particular cat. Based on how your cat responds, you must make a decision.
I’ve seen movies of cats trekking, but my cat isn’t one of those.

I’ll admit that my cat enjoys daily floor-hall and upper-floor walks in my apartment complex. So there was our daily stroll: cats are undoubtedly unusual animals.

Get A Second Cat For Company? Watch Out – This Is Very Tricky!

Before lockdown and Covid, I spent a lot of time at work, so I occasionally felt incredibly horrible for my cat having to spend so much time alone. In order to keep my cat company, I attempted obtaining a second cat.

Let me tell you, it was a total failure.

Due to the new kitten’s extreme stress and my cat’s sense of threat, she once got into such a terrible battle that even I was terrified to try to separate them. My cat was unable to tolerate the new kitten.

So, based on my personal experience, I believe cats enjoy having the house to themselves, especially if it’s a little one. I would strongly suggest against it.

A Cat Door Would Be Really Helpful – For You Mostly!

My cat, who loves open doors as I’ve already mentioned, drives me completely insane in the cold by constantly insisting on using the bathroom or, 90% of the time, just going outdoors to smell the fresh air.

Since she knows how incredibly frustrating this is to me, she just acts like she wants to go on the balcony when, in reality, she is doing it on purpose to irritate me.

I would advise getting a cat door so you won’t have to rely on your cat’s wishes to go in and out in order to stop this behavior.

Check out these cat doors for windows if you have french doors like I do, which are glass from top to bottom. Believe me, a cat door is a lifesaver!
